Emerging from Asian philosophy and dating back centuries, the term Ayurveda literally means “the science of life.” The Ayurveda massage, performed in line with this philosophy, is based on the belief that every point in the body is connected to others, aiming to strengthen these connections and thereby achieve mental and physical relaxation.
It is highly recommended by experts for its physical and psychological benefits as it helps maintain inner balance and strengthens the connection between body and mind.
The most distinctive feature of Ayurveda massage is its use of heated natural oils. Natural and aromatic oils like sesame oil, coconut oil, or rosemary oil are heated slightly above body temperature and applied by specialists.
The massage is particularly focused on pressure points. Unlike the firm techniques of Thai massage, Ayurveda massage is moderately firm, relaxing, and soothing. It is typically performed rhythmically on areas like the spine, head, chest, and feet using body weight.
The expertise of the practitioner is crucial because the physical and mental benefits of an Ayurveda massage can be immediately felt when performed by skilled hands.
Ayurveda massage is applied in four main points and in a clockwise motion. Circular movements using fingertips and palms are applied to areas such as the abdomen, the center of the forehead, the tip of the sternum, and the feet. Ayurveda massage, which can be performed daily, is ideal for those under stress, students preparing for exams, and individuals with joint and muscle pain. However, it is not recommended for pregnant women, individuals with open wounds, painful swelling, or skin infections.
Ayurvedic massage regulates blood circulation, aids the proper functioning of the lymphatic system, and nourishes and purifies the skin with the use of aromatic and natural oils. Its relaxing nature helps establish a healthy sleep pattern, making you feel more mentally active and joyful.
Ayurvedic massage on specific points on the feet is effective for issues like migraines and kidney pain. At the end of the massage, it is recommended to take a soothing warm shower. This helps the body rid itself of toxins expelled through the skin, leaving it much healthier.
After the massage and shower, it is advisable to rest and consume warm herbal teas.
